Week one we had some problems. Our gear box was too big and we had some problems with the box being too big and too uneven and wouldn't cooperate with the gears and handle too well if we had ended up installing them. How we solved problems: We destroyed and demolished the old gear box and mad a new and improved smaller gear box. It's a little more stable and will cooperate better with the gears and the lockers.

Week two went pretty well. The new gear box is great and we're making our progress. One problem we had was working together. We decided on different things and couldn't decide on one thing. We fought a bit over where to put something. We ended up stomping our feet a bit and getting mad. We came to a close and decided what to do. We could work together and we could share our ideas. More like... combine our ideas. We could mix them together to make one amazing gear box with two functional gears. (Not that we have gotten there yet).

Our prediction on the mechanical advantage of speed is that when the small wheel turns much faster than the larger gear. The big gear could turn only once when the small one turns 3 to 5 times. Another prediction is if you want to push with less power you push the small gear which will take more rotations then the bigger one. Another prediction is that if you push with the bigger it will take more power but you will get more rotations out. One way to observe the mechanical advantage is putting tape on one tooth then seeing how many times the big one goes around and then the little one. Another way to observe it is if you hook it up to a machine and see how which one works better, or faster, or more powerful. You can spin each gear and see which one gives more power, more speed, etc. You can calculate the speed by using a timer and seeing how long it takes for one to spin around and for the other. You can time one gear then multiply the number of time it takes on the other one. The last way is by grabbing a calculator and multiply and time the gears.

One challenging part when I was making my technical drawing was to line up the over head view with the forward view, The way I overcame it was I used a ruler to line both of them up. Another problem I had was finding the middle of the circles, but I figured it out by counting the squares on the paper. Adam: The hardest part for the technical drawing was calculating, estimating and all that stuff. But with a little help from the teacher I was able to calculate and get all my work done. I ended up doing very well.

We're working on a new one now, and maybe we can make it look, function, and handle better. One problem that was frustrating for me was when are gear box went missing and we had to start all over and this was only a couple classes away from the due date. Our solution was to work extra hard and fast to get the gear box done in time.

You could slam it on the table and throw it on the ground and it wouldn't break at all. You could also grab it and repeatedly smack it on the table and nothing would happen.
